Programs

Kùlú Mèlé serves the community and strengthens the preservation and perpetuation of culture, dance and music of the African Diaspora through the following programs:

Main Stage Performances bring authentic African music and dance performances to the stage. Original and commissioned choreography and music by master artists from throughout the Diaspora celebrate the diversity of African dance.

Arts Education: a wide range of workshops in African dance and music from single session participatory programs and lecture demonstrations to long term residencies. Classes are offered for children and adults.

Apprenticeships/Study Tours: Kùlú Mèlé continues to learn and preserve performing arts traditions by participating in apprenticeships with recognized master artists. The company welcomes guest artists to Philadelphia and travels throughout the African Diaspora for extensive cultural immersion in the countries of origin.

Omo Kùlú Mèlé, our youth performing ensemble for boys and girls ages 6-16, offers weekly classes in traditional African dance, drum and history as well as performance opportunities at major festivals and venues.
